What about a dual mid-side encoder project?

Front/rear flip is maybe the simple way to change front/rear perspective (or correct backwards placement) without adding to the actives.

wow, that Schoeps DMS Splitter Box for Double-M/S is north of $500.......

The encoder, which is a passive design, is about $1400.

Thanks for the block diagram.

I've got to build some boards and will be back on this in a few days.

With the Twin it looks like you need 3 preamps, the breakout and the encoder.
What a mess.

Seems like there should be a three channel FSR mic preamp bolted onto the front for an all-in-one box.
FSR In at Mic level with LR plus RAW Out.
Or just the option for Encoder-Only.

I've been wanting to do a mic preamp using the Zetex transistors for a long time.
How many DIY 3 channel mic preamps are out there?

The only 3 channel preamp I’ve ever seen is an RCA from the 1930’s, back when that covered an announcer and 2 radio studios! Everyone is prejudiced towards even channel counts above 1, so it doesn’t exist that I know of.

A front end pre and an option for line in would give ultimate flexibility.

I was just bemoaning the lack of any Ambisonic encoder/mixer hardware outside of (apparently just) the Soundfield product packages, and was reminded of this, which I should return to.

Ambisonic A-format to B-format, then pattern control and down-mixing to stereo is boggling my little brain. Another niche product very few need, and really a different pursuit from this one.

Ricardo could elucidate if he'd pop in again. Somewhere I found him saying the original Soundfield stereo output option wasn’t great, I think that he’d hardly listened to it during development as he was focused on the surround capabilities. Unfortunately or not, stereo still rules.

Found these, decent detail of the complexities. Wow, that's a lot, no wonder there aren't options out there.

I need to look at your links but remembered this B-format decoder provided by ssltech:

Ah! Don’t think I ever saw that. One still has to get A format to B first.

Must be some associated notes, ‘Z’goes nowhere on the drawing.

I always wondered where Z went.
The outputs at U6A, U7 and U8 are also not shown as outputs.

Those Calrec schematics get pretty busy - a lot to digest.

Understandable why it’s almost exclusively software these days.
